(One of my first poems in the last four years - since I somewhat matured, that is, written in a moment of depression.) Did you ever lean out in the rippling breeze And let it caress your soul and heart? Did you shut your eyes as you felt it tease Your hair, and whisper as your fell apart? Did you look out into the dark, alone, Listening to silence, willing the world away, Allowed the chill to seep right into your bone, Wanted to scream, but remained silent each day? Depression, like a trickle of tar Crept into your depths, gnawing you through, Self-loathing, like a jailer, didn't let you go far, You were always at the back, wondering what to do. How often have you wanted to shut the world out? Happiness seemed to hate you, you were loved by pain, Your confidence snuffed out by too much of doubt, Which fed on scornful laughter and looks of disdain.
